Andy Warhol was born Andrew Warhola to Czech immigrant parents, he was an award-winning commercial artist from the 1950s, before becoming a pop Art pioneer. He explored an embraced art of the popular culture of mass media, celebrity and consumer goods.  His famous pieces include the glamorous portraits of Hollywood stars.  His art is predominantly very distinctive with large visual language of modern advertising with its use of brash, bright colours, simplified imagery and repetition.

Andy Warhol set himself up as a business man first and an artist second, he spent most of his time and skill to the cultivation of publicity in order to raise his profile and thus his prices.  He was enormously successful at turning his “art”, into a mechanical process of printing, silk screen printing which allowed rapid reproduction of almost identical images.  Andy Warhol had other careers such as film –maker, fashion designer, promoter and publisher. Today, the Andy Warhol Museum has been set up in Pittsburgh America which holds a collection which includes 900 paintings; approximately 100 sculptures; nearly 2,000 works on paper; more than 1,000 published and unique prints; and 4,000 photographs.
